How a National Stock Number is built

An NSN is 13 digits, written in four groups: 5310-00-807-1474.

5310Federal Supply Class (FSC). The first four digits file the item under one of about 650 classes; 5310 is nuts and washers, 1560 is airframe structural components, 2840 is gas turbine engine components. The full list.
00National Codification Bureau code. The country that assigned the number. 00 and 01 are the United States; 99 is the United Kingdom, 12 is Germany, 14 is France.
807-1474The item number. With the bureau code in front it makes the nine-digit NIIN (National Item Identification Number), 008071474, which is unique on its own. Many systems, including DLA's bid board, work in NIINs.

Every NSN is one item of supply, however many manufacturers make it. The catalog record (the FLIS) lists each maker's part number with its CAGE code, so a search by part number and a search by NSN reach the same page here. You can look up a manufacturer's code on the CAGE code lookup.

What the record page shows

Identity

Item name, supply class, the part numbers and CAGE codes filed against the number, and the related stock numbers.

What the government paid

DLA award history for the number: date, quantity, unit price and the winning company, back as far as the record goes.

Open right now

Solicitations open on DIBBS and SAM.gov, with the quantity, the due date, and the gates a seller must clear.

Approved sources

The companies the government lists as approved for the number, and whether the item is open to all or restricted.

FAA

Airworthiness Directives that name the number or its part numbers, and PMA or TSO holders for it.

Who has it

Companies listing the number for sale here, with condition code and trace. Stale listings are retired, so what you see is real.

Data, not advice. Every figure is dated and sourced (DLA DIBBS, FLIS, SAM.gov, FPDS, FAA). A listing as an approved source is not a determination of eligibility for any particular buy; the solicitation governs.
